PS x Takumi no Yume Wrap Dress in Navy

$359.00

Practice Studio’s first design collaboration features the work of Japanese weavers Takumi no Yume and has been created in partnership with West End retailer Kazuyo Kashiwagi. Kazuyo and PS founder Kat have created versatile and size adjustable pieces intended to celebrate the cloth they are made from.

As with each piece in the collection, this wrap dress moves away from traditional Western patternmaking techniques. A reversible design that can be tied in multiple ways, its flat panels minimise textile waste when cutting - inspired by the design principles of Japanese kimonos. Rather than using curves to contour the body, shape can be created by using long ties to cinch in the waist. Alternatively, when tied only at the sides, the dress becomes a breezy, loose-fitting garment. Of course we had to add some generous in-seam pockets for you too!

Fabric pattern placement will vary with each piece made so no two are exactly the same.

Our two fabric colourways were inspired by famous ukiyo-e block prints and woven on a single layout of vertical (warp) threads - only the horizontal (weft) threads have been changed. After a lot of experimentation and dialogue with Takumi no Yume we were able to find a beautiful harmony across both versions of the fabric.

Takumi no Yume specialise in making Sakizome fabric, textiles woven from pre-dyed threads. Different combinations of thread types, thicknesses, and arrangements are incorporated, allowing the weavers to create a wide range of patterns and textures. While the process incurs greater manufacturing costs, these pre-dyed threads minimise colour fading, a key characteristic of this high quality fabric.

We hope you enjoy wearing this beautiful, lightweight Japanese cotton and have fun exploring the different ways to wear our pieces!
