PS x Takumi no Yume Kimono Top in Sky

$229.00

Practice Studio’s first design collaboration features the work of Japanese weavers Takumi no Yume and has been created in partnership with West End retailer Kazuyo Kashiwagi. Kazuyo and PS founder Kat have created versatile and size adjustable pieces intended to celebrate the cloth they are made from.

As with each piece in the collection, this top moves away from traditional Western patternmaking techniques. It features flat, geometric panels and is reversible; either the boatneck or V-neck can be worn at the front. The V-neck features origami-style pleating, drawing attention to the design of the plaid fabric and adding extra dimension and movement to the piece. Fabric pattern placement will vary with each piece made so no two are exactly the same.

Our two fabric colourways were inspired by famous ukiyo-e block prints and woven on a single layout of vertical (warp) threads - only the horizontal (weft) threads have been changed. After a lot of experimentation and dialogue with Takumi no Yume we were able to find a beautiful harmony across both versions of the fabric.

Takumi no Yume specialise in making Sakizome fabric, textiles woven from pre-dyed threads. Different combinations of thread types, thicknesses, and arrangements are incorporated, allowing the weavers to create a wide range of patterns and textures. While the process incurs greater manufacturing costs, these pre-dyed threads minimise colour fading, a key characteristic of this high quality fabric.

We hope you enjoy wearing this beautiful, lightweight Japanese cotton and have fun exploring the different ways to wear our pieces!
